We were at Budapest: LIFE food waste platform meeting!
On October 8 and 9, we were at the LIFE food waste platform meeting in Budapest to present our project FLAW4LIFE!
Thank you to the Hungarian team Wasteless for joining so many projects that fight food waste: it's been wonderful to share the experiences and the know-how.
The European Commission was present and - of course! - we got them brainstorming on policies to prevent the discrimination of our ugly fruits and vegetables!

Fruta Feia was at AquaPorto 2018
On the September 28th 2018, Fruta Feia was at AquaPorto 2018, the biggest event in Portugal about water and science, which is organized by the Porto City Council.
Phrases such as "ugly fruit is the best", "ugly fruit? what?!", "hum... what a delicious apple!", "ugly fruit is the fruit of my youth" where amongst the most said by the countless children and grown ups who have passed through.
It's good to know that the change is happening!

Journal of Cleaner Production: Fruta Feia as a good example fighting against food waste.
The portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias published an article on a study from the Edimburg University published in the Journal of Cleaner Production that concludes that more than one third of the fruits and vegetables produced in Europe is wasted. The project Fruta Feia is mentioned as a good example in the fight against food waste.

FRUTA FEIA WENT TO SCHOOL!
In the 30th of June we began with our workshops "Fruta Feia Miúda" (Little Ugly Fruit)!
The first school to receive these activities was the German School of Lisbon. Through a bunch of activities, the students were aware for the food waste due to aesthetics problem and for the solution that Fruta Feia introduces. The workshops were a success and the kids loved it!

Fruta Feia weights more than 1.000.000 Kg
We overcame 1000 tons of saved waste and we can’t stop sharing this feeling of victory with you.
There were more than 1070 tonnes of fruits and vegetables that weren’t put to waste, saving all the unnecessary waste of natural resources and devaluing of the farmers’ work that this implies.
Four and a half years ago we got a problem from behind the curtain - that of food waste due to the appearance - and put it in the mouths of the world with the idea of Fruta Feia Co-Op. The idea of counteracting the dictatorship of aesthetics in fruits and vegetables and, at the same time, building a model of cooperativism that is fairer for all - environment, farmers, consumers and workers of the cooperative.
Getting to 1000 tonnes means that we are not just an idea or a will, it means that today we are a relevant response to food waste. We’re not half a dozen people. Counting farmers, consumers, workers and people who help us in assembling the boxes, we are 6400 and we have saved more than 1000 tonnes of waste! We're not fooling around, we're shaking consumption patterns!

Fruta Feia arrived in Braga!
On May 24th we launched our eleventh delivery point, located in the Bar Académico, where we will be every Thursday from 17h to 21h.
By increasing the number of delivery points to 11 across the country, we will now be able to save 15 tonnes of fruits and vegetables every week!

On May 16th we launched our tenth delivery point, located in the Mercado da Venteira, where we will be every Wednesday from 17h to 21h.
