Fruta Feia turns 7!
We're celebrating our 7th anniversary!
And this year, in the middle of this pandemonium, with the team divided into mini-teams that do not cross, it is difficult to toast. But we cannot help doing so. Because, in addition to our impact, which continued to increase - 260 farmers, 6500 consumers, 2560 tons of waste saved - this year has brought us other good things:
The pandemic has highlighted the place that Fruta Feia occupies in the agrifood chain, from the countryside to the city. In the countryside, it was clear that the Cooperative represents a solution for farmers regarding food waste, maintaining an economy that proved to be essential during confinement. In the city, it was clear that Fruta Feia represents a safe and fair channel of access to essential goods for our associated consumers, apart from the direct way they are able to support farmers in the region.
We won two Oscars from the European Commission with our FLAW4LIFE project! The Environment Category, awarded by the EU jury, and the public, attributed by everyone who voted for us. In addition to the recognition of the work carried out in recent years, these awards are proof that the cooperative consumption model that we have created works, both in environmental and social terms.
Far all this, thank you so much to everyone who voted for us and tchin-tchin to all farmers and consumers who justify, every day, the reason for the existence of Fruta Feia!

Fruta Feia nominated for LIFE Awards 2020
In 2015, when Fruta Feia was small and had only 3 delivery points, we got a EU’s LIFE funding for our FLAW4LIFE project. This project allowed us to get to where we are nowadays – 12 delivery points, 250 partner-farmers, over 6000 consumers that save 15 tons of food waste every week!
Given the success of the social and environmental results achieved, which exceeded the goals that we set, this project has now been nominated as one of the finalists for the LIFE 2020 Awards.

Closing of Braga's delivery point
It is with great regret that we announce the closing of Braga’s delivery point.
A few months ago, we were told that we had to leave the auditorium of the Parish Council of Ferreiros, which led us to a hard search for another place to make our deliveries in the city. This time, we needed a place in the city center, which guaranteed a minimum number of consumers in order to assure the financial sustainability of this delivery point. Unfortunately, we were not successful in this search.
It is with great regret that our fight against food waste due to appearance comes to an end in the city Braga.
To our associated consumers in Braga: it was very nice to have you close by and we have to you thank for your support to our project during this time, thank you very much!

Fruta Feia in Campeão das Províncias
How many times do you go to the supermarket and see people that from a bunch of bananas only select a few ones because the others look different or simply because they look too small?
